MaxxForce fault code SPN 2791 FMI 12 is commonly associated with an EGR valve actuator or controller fault. The ECM may be detecting an internal actuator/controller issue or a condition where the EGR valve cannot be controlled as expected. This can cause poor performance, smoke, warning lights, and derate. The EGR valve assembly, actuator electronics, wiring, power, ground, and related engine control signals should all be checked before replacing parts.

Failed EGR valve actuator, internal EGR valve/controller fault, damaged wiring, poor connector contact, power or ground issue, ECM control issue, carbon binding, or actuator calibration problem.
