ECM Performance — Diesel ECM Programming

Ship-In ECM Service

Pull the ECM, ship it to Fort Lauderdale, get it back programmed. 2–3 day standard turnaround. Works for any platform, any location worldwide — owner-operators, fleet customers, international export operations, and dealer networks all default to ship-in for predictable logistics.

Six Steps

How Ship-In Works

01

Get a quote

Tell us platform, fault codes, and operational context. Same-day quote response with scope breakdown. The diagnostic conversation that precedes the calibration work matters more than the menu match — we'll surface what your truck actually needs versus what the symptoms suggest.

02

Pull the ECM

Disconnect the batteries, locate the ECM, and remove it. Most platforms take 15–30 minutes with basic hand tools. We'll walk you through the location and removal procedure for your specific platform if you haven't done it before — many of our customers do this for the first time on the call with us.

03

Pack and ship

Pack the ECM in its original foam or use bubble wrap and a sturdy box. UPS, FedEx, and DHL all handle ECM shipments routinely. Domestic overnight shipping costs $40–60; international shipping varies by destination and carrier. Ship to our Fort Lauderdale address — full ship-to instructions go out with the quote.

04

We program and test

The ECM goes onto our bench programmer. We apply the calibration scope from the quote, run the QA pass, and bench-test the unit. Same-day or next-day turnaround in our shop — the limiting factor is shipping logistics, not the work itself.

05

Return shipping

We ship back overnight by default. Return tracking number goes to you the day the unit ships out. Most domestic returns arrive next business day; international returns vary by destination but typically 2–3 business days.

06

Reinstall and verify

Reinstall the ECM in the truck — reverse of the removal procedure. Reconnect batteries, key on, verify the dash comes up clean. If anything looks off, call us before driving — most reinstall issues we've seen are a missed connector or a loose pigtail, diagnosed in a few minutes on the phone.

When Ship-In Is The Right Choice

Ship-in is the default service method for most customers because it works regardless of platform, regardless of location, and with predictable timing. Owner-operators with a single truck almost always ship-in. International customers ship-in because the logistics across borders are straightforward and well-understood. Fleet customers outside the South Florida service area typically ship-in unless the project scale justifies an on-site visit.

Ship-in also works for older platforms that don't support remote programming. Legacy Caterpillar truck engines, early MaxxForce platforms, and certain older Detroit configurations need to be on the bench — their diagnostic ecosystems were never built around remote calibration. If you don't know whether your platform supports remote programming, ask during the quote conversation; if remote works, we'll point you to it.

Turnaround Reality

Standard ship-in turnaround is 2–3 business days from when we receive the ECM to when it ships back. The work itself takes hours, not days — the constraint is fitting it into the shop queue. For time-sensitive situations, we can prioritize at no premium if you tell us during the quote conversation. We'd rather be honest about turnaround upfront than have you waiting longer than expected.

The full round-trip — including outbound and return shipping — typically runs 4–6 business days for domestic customers using overnight shipping both ways. International round-trips depend on destination, customs clearance, and carrier choice; 7–10 business days is typical. For urgent international situations, customers have flown the ECM in themselves and walked it back on the return flight — same-day turnaround in those cases.

Common Questions

Will the truck start without the ECM? No — the ECM is the engine's brain. Plan for the truck to sit during the ship-in window. For fleet customers running multiple trucks, we typically work through the ECMs sequentially so the fleet stays operational.

What if I can't pull the ECM myself? Any diesel shop can pull and reinstall an ECM — most charge $50–150 for the labor. We can point you to dealer-network shops in your area if you don't have a local relationship. The work is reversible and well-documented for every platform we cover.

What if something goes wrong during reinstall? Call us. Most reinstall issues — check engine light, no-start, dash code — are diagnostically straightforward over the phone. We've seen every variation of missed connector, loose ground, and reversed harness routing. The fix is usually a few minutes on the phone.

Do I need to ship the original ECM, or can you provide a replacement? Ship the original. Calibration work happens on your unit — the same physical hardware that came out of your truck goes back in. Replacement ECMs require core programming from scratch and complicate VIN-matching for some platforms; the standard ship-in workflow is cleaner.

International Ship-In

We work with international customers daily — the testimonials and case studies page documents work for customers in South Africa, Panama, Mexico, Republic of Congo, China, and beyond. International ship-in works the same way as domestic ship-in with two practical considerations: shipping carrier choice (DHL, FedEx International, UPS Worldwide) and customs documentation. We provide the customs paperwork for return shipping; outbound customs documentation comes from your shipper. Most international round-trips clear customs without issue when the paperwork is complete.

For export operations programming trucks destined for international markets, we can work with the trucks before port shipment — Carlos V.'s testimonial on the case studies page documents this exact workflow with F-750 export trucks. Coordinate the calibration with us before the trucks ship to avoid post-shipment retrofit logistics.
