A Specialized Team, Not A General Shop
ECM Performance is a small specialized team. We're not a 50-bay diesel repair operation that also offers programming as an upsell. Every technician on the team works exclusively on the calibration and diagnostic side of diesel work — ECM programming, custom tuning, DPF/EGR/SCR delete preparation for export and off-road operations, emissions recalibration, performance tuning, and fleet diagnostic support.
The scope is narrow by design. We've seen most of the diagnostic patterns that come through, often hundreds or thousands of times. That depth of pattern recognition is what lets us move quickly on most customer conversations — the technical pattern is usually familiar; what's specific is the operator's context, the fleet's operational reality, and the regulatory situation.

Each major diesel ECM platform has its own diagnostic interface, calibration library, fault code language, and quirks. Our technicians work across all the major manufacturer ecosystems, with platform-specific tooling for each.

Diagnostic-First Approach
Diagnostic before calibration. Calibration scope follows the diagnosis. Hardware service gets identified separately and pointed at the right service path.
Most ECM programming shops will quote you a fixed-price calibration for whatever symptom you describe. Our technicians work differently. The diagnostic conversation usually surfaces operational context that affects what the right calibration scope actually is. Sometimes the customer's described problem is the symptom but not the cause. Sometimes the right calibration scope is narrower than the customer expected; sometimes it's broader. Sometimes calibration isn't the right path at all and the customer needs hardware service first.
The technician's job in the diagnostic conversation is to be honest about what we think is going on, what the resolution options look like, and what the trade-offs are. The customer makes the operational decision about how to proceed.
Continuous Learning
Diesel ECM platforms evolve constantly. Manufacturer calibration libraries get updated. Aftertreatment system designs change between model years. New diagnostic interfaces replace older ones. Regulatory environments shift around what calibration scopes are appropriate for what use cases.
Our technicians stay current with platform releases, manufacturer service bulletins, and emerging diagnostic patterns. When a new Cummins X-series variant rolls out, when Paccar updates the Davie XDc II interface, when Cat releases a new industrial-engine calibration library — those updates land in our toolchain and our diagnostic knowledge base.
The narrow scope of our work makes this manageable. A general diesel shop can't reasonably stay current across hardware service, calibration, programming, and diagnostic patterns for every manufacturer. A calibration-specialized shop can.
How We Communicate
Direct. Specific. Honest about what we know and what we don't. The diagnostic conversation should leave the customer with a clear understanding of what we think the issue is, what the calibration scope would look like, what the cost and turnaround are, and what the alternative paths might be if calibration isn't the right answer.
We don't oversell calibration scope. If your symptom is best addressed by hardware service, we'll tell you that. If your fleet pattern points to a single underlying issue rather than truck-by-truck variation, we'll surface that too — usually the coordinated fix is more economical than individual responses across the fleet population.
For fleet customers, the conversation often extends into operational practice — how the trucks are being used, what duty cycles are producing what failure modes, what calibration adjustments fit the actual operation. That conversation usually delivers the operational value, not the individual calibration job.
Confidentiality & Fleet Privacy
Fleet customers often share operational data — duty cycle profiles, failure rate patterns, fleet composition, calibration history — during diagnostic conversations. We treat that information as confidential. NDAs are available on request for fleet customers who want a formal confidentiality agreement before sharing detailed operational data.
We don't publish customer fleet identities in case studies, marketing material, or testimonials without explicit written permission. The published testimonials on the site reflect customers who chose to be identified; the operational reality is that most fleet work happens without public attribution.
