Diagnostic Overview
Cummins fault code 5177 is commonly associated with VGT actuator performance or turbocharger actuator calibration. The ECM may detect that the actuator is not moving correctly, is not calibrated, or is not communicating as expected. Causes include a failed actuator, sticking turbo vanes, incorrect actuator part number, wiring faults, poor connector contact, or mechanical turbo binding. Diagnosis should include checking the actuator part number, power, ground, communication, calibration status, and turbo mechanical movement before replacing the turbo assembly.
