Diagnostic Overview
Cummins fault code 1898 is commonly associated with the VGT actuator controller being out of calibration or not responding correctly. The ECM may detect that the actuator position feedback is not aligned with the expected range. Causes include actuator replacement without calibration, failed calibration, sticking VGT vanes, failed actuator electronics, wiring issues, or mechanical turbo binding. The repair usually involves checking the actuator circuit, inspecting the turbo for free movement, and performing the proper Cummins actuator calibration procedure.
