Diagnostic Overview
CAT fault code 102-04 indicates intake manifold pressure or boost pressure sensor voltage below normal. The ECM may interpret this as low or invalid boost pressure, which can cause low-power complaints or derate. FMI 4 is commonly caused by a short to ground, failed sensor, or wiring problem. The turbocharger should not be replaced until the pressure sensor circuit is verified.
Likely Causes
Short to ground; failed boost pressure sensor; damaged harness; poor connector contact; low reference voltage; moisture intrusion.
What To Check First
Inspect the boost sensor connector, verify 5-volt reference and ground, test signal voltage, and compare boost reading to atmospheric pressure with key on engine off.
