Diagnostic Overview
Cummins fault code 1896 generally indicates an EGR flow or EGR valve control problem. The ECM may detect that EGR flow is too low, too high, or not responding properly to commands. Common causes include a stuck EGR valve, carbon-packed EGR cooler, failed actuator, plugged EGR differential pressure tubes, faulty pressure sensor, or related turbo/boost issue. Diagnosis should include EGR valve actuation testing, cooler inspection, pressure sensor checks, and verification of boost and exhaust pressure data.
