Diagnostic Overview
Mack fault code SPN1031 generally indicates turbocharger boost pressure below the expected range. Low boost can cause low power, smoke, poor acceleration, high soot output, and failed regeneration complaints. This is often caused by an air leak or turbo control problem.
Likely Causes
Charge-air cooler leak; loose intake boot; exhaust leak before turbo; sticking VGT; failed actuator; restricted air filter; weak turbo.
What To Check First
Pressure-test the charge-air system, inspect intake boots and CAC, check exhaust leaks, and compare commanded versus actual boost.
