Diagnostic Overview
Cummins fault code 1887 is typically related to DPF differential pressure, soot loading, or regeneration performance. The ECM may be seeing pressure readings that do not match expected DPF flow or soot load. This can happen when the DPF is restricted, the pressure tubes are plugged or leaking, the differential pressure sensor is inaccurate, or the engine is producing excessive soot. The first step is to check for related DPF pressure sensor codes, inspect the sensor tubes, review regen history, and verify whether the DPF needs regeneration, cleaning, or replacement.
